About our Wine List

About our Wine List

Full wine list (pdf)

People often ask us why we have an American Wine List and why we don't offer the great wines of France, Italy or Australia. It may seem chauvinistic, but we truly believe the Bay Area and its environs are home to the finest collection of wines produced anywhere in the world.

To the north are Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino. To the east lie the Livermore Valley and the Sierra Foothills. Heading south are Monterey and the Central Coast. Each appellation is special and distinctive as to the grapes and the styles of wine produced. Yet each has a common bond. Quality.

In 1976, an unexpected event occurred when two California wines, 1972 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon SLV and the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay scored higher than all of the French first growth Bordeaux and White Burgundies in Stephen Spurrier's famous Paris Tasting. Today, these results might well be expected.

Here in Marin, Dungeness crab, local salmon, Sonoma lamb, and peak of the season produce all play a role in creating The Lark Creek Inn's farm-fresh American fare. In our own travels, local cuisine has always been enhanced by local or regional wines. Enjoy the best of both at The Lark Creek Inn.

We have attempted to provide you with the extra information required to find what you want in a list that may contain many wines which are new to you. We have not been afraid to offer opinions, sometimes about the wines themselves but also about growing areas, vintages, different grapes and production methods. Many of these opinions are expressed as generalities. As such, we hope they can be useful, but there are exceptions to any rule.
